The first of our banned book series, Lady Chatterley’s Lover by D.H. Lawrence. This book was written to be published in 1928 (only selectively in Florence and Paris), but didn’t see publication until 1960 in the UK. And even then the taboo of writing about sex and unprintable language was too much for many people. It landed on the most-banned-book lists and hasn’t really left it. Many people have heard of this book, but most people have not read it.

I dare you to read it. I dare you to read about a sexual relationship between consenting adults who care about each other and try to work out their problems. I dare you to read language people say but would not print at the time and we still cannot say on network television. We can be vulgar and normal and primal and uncouth and classless. And sometimes we want to read about people who are too.
